Week seven of the IPL 2025 didn’t disappoint and it’s officially clear who will compete in the playoffs after matches on Sunday. There’s an explanation below on who will play, who’s not in and what’s on the line ahead of the final league matches.
The IPL 2025 Final Playoff Teams Have Been Announced
After beating Delhi Capitals by 59 runs, The team known as Mumbai Indians (MI) secured the fourth playoff spot and closed off opportunities for other teams before seven more league matches remained. Four teams have ensured their spot in this year’s IPL playoffs.
- Gujarat Titans are the team known as GT.
- The Punjab Kings (PBKS)
- Royal Challengers have been the franchise with one of the biggest fan bases in the league for the past four years.
- Mumbai Indians (MI)
The playoffs are set, yet the dramatics are not done, since these teams are still fighting hard for those top spots.
Which Teams Have Been Eliminated
Since MI has won, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals are all eliminated from playoff contention for IPL 2025.
Why the Top-Two Race Is Important
Being in the top two after the IPL group stage gives a team double the chance to reach the IPL final. In Qualifier 1, the top-scoring teams from each match play and the winner qualifies for the final while the loser has one last chance in Qualifier 2.
How the current races look and what is possible.
According to the May 26th ranks, qualified teams’ points of IPL 2025 are as follows:
- The Titans have finished all their league games, but if the outcomes work against them, they could drop to third place.
- Punjab Kings and RCB each have 17 points and need to play only one match more. The NRR will be very important if both teams finish with the same points.
- The Mumbai Indians remain on 16 points and have one match left. To make it into the top two, they have to win and have a good NRR.
Important Upcoming Games:
The winner of May 26 will finish in the top eight and play in Qualifier 1 on Sunday, May 29.
If RCB wins their encounter against LSG on May 27, they will go into the top two with either PBKS or MI; otherwise, GT will remain there.
Should PBKS vs MI end in a tie, GT will remain in the top two and RCB could join them if they beat LSG.
Playoff Schedule
Qualifier 1: The top two teams compete against each other for an immediate place in the final.
The winner of the eliminator will advance and the losing team will be sent home.
Winner of the qualifier is now matched against the winner from the Eliminator match to decide the second finalist.
Action in the playoffs starts on May 29, with a final set for June 3 in Ahmedabad.
Conclusion
With the postseason teams set, everyone is waiting for the last league games to see who makes it into the top-two places. Currently, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians are all hoping to earn an edge—leaving the league stage with an exciting climax.
